I'm Alex Robison and I'm from Tupelo, Mississippi. I'm currently a photography major at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. I shoot primarily film, 120, 35, and sometimes digital. The amount of hands- on work that goes into developing the film is what I love the most about the medium. The room for error can be rattling for sure but it's what I find to be the most intriguing. I am able to manipulate the film during development to create fabric like textures and photographs overgrown with ice. Double exposures are also a favorite of mine because of how it can skew our vision of the world we see.

My work consists of multiple forms of photography that contribute to how I approach the medium. I look for structure and find a way to abstract it in a way that tells a story. I often chase imperfections to explore new methods of abstraction and to further understand what’s possible with a camera. This exploration has taught me many techniques that give me a better understanding of how the medium can also be used. I’ve learned to embrace the unpredictability of film, as even the slightest mistake can become the greatest result. This also serves as a state of mind: to let it be, to not be so controlling, and to keep an open mind. For me, film follows this state of mind perfectly focusing on the moment and what’s in front of you. It can even cater to a controlling mindset, but I use my control in a way to manipulate. It’s in the viewfinder of a film camera where I feel the most focused and connected with my visions.
