Alex Robison is a photographer based in Florence, AL, originally from Tupelo, MS. He studied photography at the University of North Alabama where he fell in love with film. Its hands-on process and functionality are what hooked him. The ability to double expose with ease and manipulate film during its development process is what he finds most appealing.
My work spans multiple forms of photography, contributing to how I approach the medium. I look for structure and abstract it in a way that tells a story.
I chase imperfections to explore new methods of abstraction and further understand the nuances of a camera. This exploration has taught me various techniques that give me a better understanding of how the medium can be used. I have learned to embrace unpredictability, as even the slightest mistake can lead to a surprising result.
This also serves as a state of mind: to let it be, to not be so controlling, and to keep an open mind. I believe film embodies this mindset perfectly, forcing focus on the moment that surrounds you. While this also caters to a controlling mindset, I use my control in a way to manipulate, learn, and grow along with it.
